AARP Foundation Tax Assistance Program Seeks Volunteers in Broome County

(WBNG) – The Broome County AARP Foundation Tax Assistance Program is recruiting new volunteers for the upcoming tax season.

Tax-Aide is a free tax preparation assistance organization sponsored by the AARP Foundation and the IRS. Broome County District Coordinator Keith Harrison said the program provides free services to local Broome County taxpayers.

“For those in Broome County, they were looking for people to help us staff 7 sites where we’ll be making appointments for taxpayers to come and have their taxes paid absolutely free,” Harrison said. “The people we are looking for are people who enjoy working with people, should be comfortable working with computers, because today most of our taxes are done on computers and would be comfortable working with them. digital information. “

Tax advisor and instructor Sue Freed said prior tax knowledge is not required.

“We train people from A to Z,” Freed said. “You don’t need to know anything about taxes before you start with us, we have a series of courses that we offer people and the willingness to learn is all they need and we can help them. teach everything they need to know to do taxes.

The training will take place in January 2022 through in-person and online courses.

The preparation of tax returns will take place from February 1 to April 15, at the end of the tax season.
